We are thrilled to welcome special guest Dr. Mylien Duong, VP of Research at the Constructive Dialogue Institute (CDI), a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to equipping the next generation of Americans with the mindset and skill set to engage in dialogue across differences. Dr. Duong will help us learn how to listen deeply, ask better questions, and engage with empathy—even in the toughest conversations.

This session builds on our past meetings, Teaching in Troubling Times (February) and From Challenge to Change (March), where we explored the emotional and cognitive demands of teaching in today’s world. In February, we learned from Parker J. Palmer how to keep connected to our sense of hope and integrity while teaching in complex, divided times. In March, we examined ‘ways of being’ that help us navigate conflict and change in our communities.

Now, we turn our attention to the conversations themselves. How do we talk to those who see the world differently? Why do people see the same facts and reach different conclusions? Why do facts alone rarely change minds? And how can we create space for real dialogue, even when we deeply disagree?

In this free, 90-minute meeting, we will:
